This version of the MC20 will be limited to 62 units, and it's meant for extreme track duty only.

The Maserati Project24 previews a track-only version of the MC20 that's coming soon. Maserati has made some changes to the styling of its supercar to make it more capable and aerodynamic. In the front, the headlights of the normal version are replaced by slim led-stripes and the splitter is adjustable for fine-tuning the aerodynamics. A big vent in the hood helps to direct air over the body and is joined by an illuminated central fin stretching from the roof scoop to the rear wing. The rear wing itself is huge and adjustable. It sits above higher positioned exhaust pipes to make a larger diffuser in the rear bumper possible.

Since the Maserati Project24 is not homologized for public roads, it does not have to comply with emissions regulations. Therefore, the "Nettuno" twin-turbo 3,0-liter V-6 will be upgraded to deliver more power for track duty. Maserati claims that the Project24 will feature 740 horsepower (552 kilowatts), which is 120 horsepower (89.5 kilowatts) more than the MC20. Currently, this supercar makes 538 pound-feet (730 Newton-meters) of torque. Maserati hasn't provided specifics, but we expect Project24 to see a substantial increase in torque too.

For better handling performance, the Project24 features special center-lock, 18-inch forged wheels with slick tires and Brembo carbon-ceramic ventilated brakes with race-spec calipers and improved cooling. An adjustable racing ABS and traction control are of course self-evident.

With a curb weight of less than 2,756 pounds (1,250 kilograms), the Project24 is much lighter than the MC20 at 3,306 pounds (1,500 kilograms). This substantial reduction comes from a monocoque and body that's made from carbon fiber and the Lexan front and side windows. Furthermore, a six-speed sequential racing gearbox with paddle shifters replaces the eight-speed automatic transmission.

Besides that, Maserati completely changes the interior of the MC20. The cabin consists now mostly of an FIA-approved roll cage and a fire extinguisher. They are joined by a six-point harness to hold the driver securely in place and a carbon-fiber steering wheel. Besides this spartan equipment, Maserati offers a wide variety of upgrades to make the interior more appealing.

Finally, every owner will get exclusive access to track events supported by Maserati. Only 62 units are planned for production, and according to Maserati, there won't be two cars alike. The automaker did not share details about a potential start of production or pricing at this point. The real name for the Project24 could be MC20 "Versione Corse". Knowing the details about the exclusivity of the supercar, it should cost certainly more than the MC20, which starts at $215,995.
